DStv Compact and GOtv Supa viewers should look forward to a new talk show, a millennial sitcom, and a hospital drama series on the menu. Who else is excited?

The new year on Akwaaba Magic is kicking off on a spicy and thought-provoking note with the premiere of Ghana’s hottest new talk show, The Angela Bamford Show, on 8 January 2022 at 20:00. Hosted by the award-winning, multitalented, and captivating model, actor and presenter - Angela Bamford, this brand-new lifestyle series will undoubtedly be a hit with viewers. Your Saturday nights will never be the same!

Combining topical discussions with celebrity interviews, musical performances, and games, amongst other segments, The Angela Bamford Show takes a multicultural approach to its content and is proudly Afrocentric. Topics it will cover in season one include reparations for slavery and colonization, women and sexuality, transactional relationships, skin bleaching and feminism in Ghana and Africa. This is the show everyone will be talking about.

Also premiering on Akwaaba Magic in January is the new comedy The Oseis’; hitting DStv ch 150 and GOtv Supa ch 101 on Tuesday 11 January at 20:30. The series asks the question: what would you do if you won the lottery? Starring Andrew Tandoh Adote and Jacinta Ocansey, the show follows Mr. Osei, who moves his family to a lavish and private new home in Accra after he hits the jackpot. He spends the rest of the season in hiding from other family members – who are looking to get their hands on his money – while flirting with fame, adjusting to his new life, trying to keep his marriage alive and navigating life’s never-ending curveballs.

Also joining the already-impressive Akwaaba Magic lineup are Accra Medic and Co-Habits. Premiering on Wednesday 19 January at 20:30, Accra Medic is an original TV medical drama following the lives of the staff at an Accra hospital, as they navigate the challenges of their lives while saving patients - while in a hospital that’s suffering from mismanagement in a country with an ailing healthcare system. The cast includes Edward Agyekum Kufuor, Desiree Crentsil, Kweku Elliott and Aaron Adatsi. This one will tug at your heartstrings!

The romantic sitcom - Co-Habits kicks off on Thursday 20 January at 20:30 about Lily and Kwadwo. This follows the story of an in-love young couple who decide to move in together before taking the leap and getting married. What ensues are funny situations and occurrences that threaten the foundation of their relationship. Will their love get stronger, or will they call it quits altogether? Tune in on Thursday nights to find out the fate of this adorable couple.

January will also see the return of two shows – Sheroes of Our Time and Culture and Money, both back for their second season. Premiering on Thursday 13 January at 18:00 and hosted by the brilliant and formidable broadcasting veteran Anita Erskine, Sheroes of Our Time is a platform that shines the spotlight on strong and unique women whose success stories are inspiring and engaging, in a time when women are discovering what owning their narrative means and what boldly telling their stories means for the empowerment movement.

And finally, on Friday 14 January at 18:00 is the return of Culture and Money, the show which explores the relationship between creativity and money. Hosted by renowned radio presenter Bianca Buckman, the series features conversations with successful cultural influencers such as musicians, fashion designers, chefs and sports stars about their craft and money; how they make it, how they manage it and how they keep it going. Not only is it engaging, it’s educational, too.

“At Akwaaba Magic, we’re proud to go into the new year with a slate of content that’s engaging, empowering and entertaining. We’re one of the most diverse and multifaceted channels on the continent, and the shows that are coming up further prove our commitment to giving our viewers content that is topical, on the pulse and ahead of the curve,” says Channel Head Kennedy Dankyi-Appah.

“As a channel, we work with a range of creatives, from the well-established, to those on the up and up. Our content is created by Ghanaians, for Africans, and we couldn’t be prouder of our contribution to the industry’s growth and success,” he concluded.

So, while the festive season is in full swing, things won’t be slowing down on Akwaaba Magic when the new year comes in – if anything, they’ll be heating up! The question is, are you ready?
