You know how they say your enemies are not far from you? In Ozo Isi Chibuzor’s case, they were practically sitting at his table.
His death did not come from some distant rival or random spiritual attack. No. It was carefully orchestrated by people he trusted. People he helped. People who smiled in his face. From Mgbeke, the former madwoman he healed and elevated, to his own uncle Iwuoha, and even Kanayo, his childhood friend. Everybody played their part.
Honestly? Betrayal has never been this organised.
It all started with Mgbeke
Mgbeke was once the village madwoman until Chibuzor healed her. Not only did he restore her sanity, but he also brought her close and made her his spiritual guide. Talk about upgrading your life.
But peace did not last long. Mgbeke soon discovered her daughter had been struck with a strange illness. And here’s the twist. Because of how spiritually connected Chibuzor was to the girl, he could not heal her. Irony at its finest.
Instead of accepting fate or seeking another solution, Mgbeke decided the only way to save her daughter was to eliminate the Chief Priest and replace him with someone who could perform the healing ritual. Simple solution, right? Just kill the man who saved your life. The audacity.
The bitter uncle
Every great betrayal needs a willing assistant, and one was found in Iwuoha, the uncle who never liked his nephew in the first place. When Mgbeke approached him about getting a mystical knife capable of killing the Chief Priest, he did not hesitate. High-risk mission? Deadly consequences? Spiritual danger? Iwuoha said yes before she even finished the sentence. His job was to retrieve the mysterious knife. A weapon powerful enough to do what ordinary weapons could not, and he delivered.
The childhood friend
If the uncle’s betrayal hurt, this one stung deeper. Kanayo, Chibuzor’s childhood friend, agreed to take his place as Chief Priest once the deed was done. But first, he needed to help weaken him.
His task was simple. Lure Chibuzor out of the shrine so Mgbeke could steal the sacred staff that amplified his powers. While Chibuzor trusted his friend, Mgbeke performed rituals that severed him from accessing his full spiritual strength at the exact moment he would need it most.
The final blow
Now someone had to actually do the stabbing, and that person was Dike. Already standing trial for murder. Already nursing a grudge against Chibuzor, who had recently pushed for his execution. So when the opportunity presented itself, Dike did not waste it. After escaping from his holding cell, Dike abducted Chibuzor’s sister. That forced the Chief Priest to confront him, and that confrontation ended in blood.
The painful part? Chibuzor had just escaped death in the spirit world. He had fought battles beyond the physical realm. It looked like destiny had given him another chance. Only for him to return to the living world and be betrayed by his own people. Sometimes the real danger is not in the spirit world. It is in your contact list.
Now the perpetrators walk around acting sad and performing public grief like seasoned actors. But how long will that last? Will someone uncover the truth? Will Chibuzor be avenged? Or will the conspirators walk free? To find out, tune in to The Low Priest, weekdays at 8 pm on Africa Magic Showcase.
