19 June 2021
Get ready for triple the talent on this Sunday’s Nigerian Idol Live Show!
Temp 2 (1)

As another Live Show approaches, we explore the playlist of the Nigerian Idol Top 5 contestant in anticipation of their performances. Just like the ‘Jazz versus Pop’ Live Show, each contestant will be performing two songs. The playlist for this Sunday will be divided into three categories: Reggae, Crooners and Divas!

Show Opener

The show kicks off with a Group Performance of reggae icon Bob Marley & The Wailers’ ‘One Love’ released in 1977. The last time the contestants treated us to a Group Performance was during the Afrobeat Live Show where they performed Fela’s ‘Water Get No Enemy’. It was quite a thrilling performance and we eagerly anticipate another captivating performance.

For the first performance category, the contestants will be getting their Reggae vibe on. Francis will perform Bob Marley classic ‘No Woman No Cry’ recorded in 1974 from the album Natty Dread. Akunna gets the chance to put herself in Shaggy's shoes when she performs 'It Wasn't Me' from the album Hotshot, released in 2000. Kingdom performs the 1991 hit track, ‘Holy Spirit’ by Majek Fashek from his album, Spirit of Love, while Comfort covers the 1980 hit song 'Could You Be Loved' by Bob Marley to open her set. Faith on the other hand will cover Johnny Nash's 1972 chart-topper, 'I Can See Clearly Now'.

The second category is all about shining a spotlight on the vocals of our Nigerian Idol male contestants. In this round, Kingdom performs ‘It's A Man's World’ by the legendary James Brown released in 1966. From the album Raymond v Raymond, released in 2010, Faith will be covering Usher’s ‘There Goes My Baby’. Francis has his hands full with ‘Sexual Healing’ by Marvin Gaye from his 1982 album Midnight Love.

The final category is dedicated to the Divas aka the ladies of Top 5 who will be holding down the fort. Akunna will be setting the stage alight with a performance of Adele's 2010 single ‘Set Fire To The Rain’ from the album 21 released in 2010. Comfort on the other hand will be performing ’Natural Woman’ by Carole King from the album Tapestry released in 1971.

Three categories, three rounds of captivating performances that will hold us spellbound. Sunday can’t come soon enough!
