On this episode of the Nigerian Idol Live Show, the contestants treat us to some of our favourite hits.

Having opened the Nigerian Idol Live Show with spectacular performances that had the internet buzzing and fans in a frenzy, the Top 11 contestants get another shot at raising the bar with new performances.

Last Sunday, they time travelled to give us amazing classics, but this time, they are treating us to a few of our recent popular hit songs and we are certainly expecting to have our minds blown. Let’s dig into their song choices for this Sunday.

Akunna:

XO by Beyoncé

Last week, she dished a thrilling rendition of Wombo Lombo by Angélique Kidjo and everyone ate all up. This time around, Naija and the Beyhive will be watching with anticipation as Akunna performs ‘XO’ by Beyoncé from her self-titled album released in 2013.  Will she be able to get the Nigerian Idol Fam to love her performance before they turn the lights out? We will find out.

Beyonce:

Dynamite” by BTS

Her confidence was evident throughout her performance of Agolo by Angélique Kidjo last week, as Obi Asika noted and this Sunday, Beyonce will be performing ‘Dynamite’ by BTS released in 2020. Can we expect her to exude more confidence as she performs this global smash hit? Only time will tell.

Clinton:

"Tonight” by John Legend

After making Mothers’ Day a memorable one with his version of Sweet Mother by Prince Nico Mbarga, Clinton is on a quest to make Sunday night the best we ever had. He performs "Tonight” by John Legend, lead single from the soundtrack to the movie ‘Think Like a Man’ released in 2012. Will Clinton attain his quest? Guess we’ll just have to wait till Sunday to find out.

Comfort:

Ire by Adekunle Gold 

Her debut Live Show performance got her commendations and this Sunday, she plans to bring her A-game as she performs Adekunle Gold’s soulful hit, ‘Ire’ released in 2018. Comfort will have to dig deep to render this melodious track in such a way that resonates among the Nigerian Idol Fam.

Daniel:

Empty Space by James Arthur

It has been an incredible week for Daniel with his performance honouring the legendary Lucky Dube, and this Sunday, he performs this 2018 hit by James Arthur. Will Daniel be able to fill the empty space with love and adoration from fans as he performs? The frenzy on the internet should tell.

Dotun:

Another Day in Paradise by Brandy & Ray J

This song from 2001 by Brandy & Ray J was originally recorded by Phil Collins comes right after Dotun's powerful cover of Malaika by Miriam Makeba. Will he follow up on his previous energized performance and impress the judges or will he take it up a notch? We're excited to see.

Emmanuel:

Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth feat. Emeli Sandé

Emmanuel will be taking on the stage as he covers this amazing song recorded by British musicians Labrinth and Emeli Sandé. Released in 2016. After getting props for his rendition Send Down the Rain by Majek Fashek from the judges, the pressure is on. Can he brush the pressure and let us see beneath his beautiful on Sunday night? We’ll see.

Faith:

All Time Low by Jon Bellion

His vocal flex while performing Joromi by Sir Victor Uwaifo is one for the books. This time, Faith performs one of his favourite songs – ‘All Time Low’ by Jon Bellion that took over the airwaves in 2016. Will Faith knock this performance out of the park? Grab a seat at the front row this Sunday to find out.

Faith Mac:

All by Myself by Celine Dion

Faith Mac will be delivering one of Celine Dion’s greatest hits released in 1996. An iconic song that deserves an iconic performance. Faith Mac has already demonstrated that she can hit those notes and deliver performances that prove she is a giant on stage; how she delivers this performance will be interesting to see.

Francis:

Writing's on the Wall by Sam Smith

This Sam Smith song, originally from the 2015 James Bond film Spectre, will be performed by Francis. He already wowed us with his performance of Lucky Dube's Remember Me last Sunday, so we are counting on him to do it again.

Kingdom:

Uyo Meyo by Teni

Teni's hit track took over the airwaves when it was released in 2018 and four years later Kingdom will be bringing his own spin to this Afro-pop-inspired track. The roaring performance he delivered last Sunday already brought him into the spotlight. Will he make an even greater impact under this spotlight this time around? We'll find out this Sunday.
