The Nigerian Idol Top 10 emerges amidst beautiful African music and sad goodbyes.
Nigerian Idol

Last night on Nigerian Idol was a night of tension, high fashion, and smash hits. The night started quite tense as the Contestants had to find out if they made it to the Top 10 before performing on stage. The theme for the night was the African Greats and this meant the Contestants were going to perform iconic hits from African artists and boy did they deliver. True to the theme of African greatness, the Contestants all looked dapper and glamorous in their outfits and definitely turned heads when they stepped on stage.

First to be announced as a Top 10 Contestant and therefore first to perform was Zadok who gave a decent performance of Wizkid’s smash hit ‘Back To The Matter’

Then came Debby who did an amazing performance of ‘Vulindlela’ by late South African Legend Brenda Fassie. The Judges were pleased with Debby’s performance and encouraged her to do more.

Third to be called up as a Top 10 Contestant was Gerald who gave a warm rendition of ‘Ifunanya’ by P-square. His performance ended with him going up to Simi, holding her hands, and incorporating her name into the lyrics of the song. The charming performance had Gerald getting positive reviews from the Judges.

Fourth on stage was Faith who gave a powerful rendition of Lagbaja’s ‘Never Far Away’. Her performance earned her a standing ovation from all 3 judges, a first for the night. She was commended positively by all the Judges and social media also was agog about the performance.

Up next was the baby dragon herself, Itohan who blew listeners away with her amazing rendition of ‘Omawumi’s single ‘If You Ask Me’. She got commendations for making the song her own and giving a superb vocal delivery.

The Contestant called up to the Top 10 spot next was Abigail who had the herculean task of pulling off the song of a Judge. She performed ‘Emergency’ by the Koko Master himself and he agreed that her performance was awesome. Even Obi Asika mentioned preferring her song choice for the night to that which she performed the week before.

Then came Progress who took us to church with his awesome rendition of ‘Joy’ by Wizkid. He delivered amazing vocals, connected with the audience, and delivered a mother’s day message. Talk about a multi-tasking King.😁

Jordan came up next with a decent performance of ‘Ye’  by Burna Boy. The basketballer who was noticeably donning a new hairdo got a few positive comments about his performance from the Judges.

Banty turned up as the 9th Contestant to make it to the Top 10 spot for the Season. She gave a rendition of Davido’s smash hit ‘Aye’ which did not necessarily seat well with the Judges who felt she could do better.

After Banty’s performance, There were three Contestants left with only one slot available to make up the Top 10 for the Season. Who was it going to be? That question was on the mind of viewers last night who couldn’t wait to get the tension over with. The three Contestants left were David Operah, Precious and Joel who were called to the stage by IK before he announced that David Operah was filling up the Top 10 spot.

After that nerve-racking moment, David Operah went on to perform ‘Street Credibility’ by 9ice ft 2baba. His performance was definitely the high point of the night as he had D’banj, Simi and many of the live audience on their feet halfway through his performance. At the end of his performance, he got a loud ovation from the audience and positive reviews from the Judges.

Unfortunately, this also signalled the end of the road for Joel and Precious who despite being amazing singers, did not get enough Votes to remain in the competition.
