With song titles such as 'Romeo and Juliet', ‘Love Don’t Lie’, and ‘My Beautiful Love’ part of his repertoire, Johnny Drille (born John Ighodaro) is the perfect muso to kick things off for us on Ultimate Love.

Not only is he a talented musician – he is a songwriter, producer, and sound engineer – he has the brains to match with a degree in English and Literature from the University of Benin. It must be that classic literature that inspires his lyrics, abi?

His musical influences include international artists such as Mumford and Sons, Owl City, Passenger, Laura Mvula, and Cobhams Asuquo.

According to his recording company, Mavin Records: "On his [Drille's] choice of the folk sound, he admits he didn’t start out with it as he had tried his hands at multiple genres of music including highlife, hip-hop, and even afro-pop but these didn’t work out until he figured out a way to stand out after coming across the music of the American folk band, Mumford and Sons."

Before he got to Mavin Records, he tried his hands at the MTN Project Fame Academy in 2013. By 2015, he had released a cover version of Di’ja’s ‘Awww’ which was when Mavin Records CEO Don Jazzy wanted to know more about Drille. And the rest, as they say, is history.
