It's fascinating how social media has grown to be as much about networking as it is a reflection of our collective consciousness. Nowhere is this more evident than black youth's reinvigorated celebration of Afrocentric beauty! "#BlackGirlMagic", "BlackBoyJoy", "Shea Butter Twitter" and "#MelaninPopping" are common place on our timelines as are the thousands of accounts dedicated to celebrating blackness in its diverse, shapes and forms.

While we MUST acknowledge trailblazing beauties like Naomi Campbell, Alek Wek and Iman for paving the way and creating space for future stars to shine, it’s still fascinating to see a new generation of models step to the fore, singing the same song and celebrating the skin they're in.

Hamamat is one such champion and she’s become as widely known for her flawless complexion and breathtaking beauty as she is for her enchanting personality and pride in her African roots. After “Kings and Queens” her most popular slogan is "We don't bleach! We polish!". She backs the talk up with an extensive skincare line that makes use of traditional, African ingredients like shea butter, moringa oil and even medicinal roots and herbs.

She’s a high fashion model by profession who rose to fame after becoming a finalist on the 'Nokia Face of Africa' model search in 2008. She’s since graced the covers of magazines and even done runway all the while amassing nearly 140 000 followers on Instagram. She posts ancient beauty secrets and travels her homeland sharing the authentic African experience with her many fans from across the globe. Traditional food, dance, fashion, historical facts, you name it – Hamamat’s talking about it and looking flawless doing it!

So happy #MelaninMonday “kings and queens”. If you’re loving what the good sis, Hamamat is doing, don’t forget to give her a follow. Keep the love going in the comments by telling us why you believe black is beautiful.
