Many of us understand the struggle that comes with teenage life and the ‘Shine Ya Eye’ Housemates are no stranger to all those challenges, especially in high school. While having her one-on-one Diary Session with Boma and Jackie B, Liquorose poured out her heart to them regarding her struggles with self-esteem, bullying and relationships, while growing up.

Self esteem

Liquorose, while speaking to them revealed that she believed she was ugly as a teenager. Her struggle with appreciating her body started as a child where she says she was skinny. To combat this, her mother advised her to cut her hair, which was quite long at the time, because it was believed to be the cause of her weight loss. She added how she gained a few pounds when her hair was cut, but this led to more problems when she got to high school as she was bullied for her weight and called fat.

Dealing with bullying

The bullying she got from her classmates made her an angry child who was alert and prone to violence – an attitude she carried right into young adulthood. She went on to say she made it a point to always stay angry because of all that she faced in high school and would have become a cultist if she had gained admission into the University right after high school.

Relationship woes

Liquorose further revealed that the battle she had with her self-esteem led her to make the poor choice of dating three members of the same family one after the other. She explained how one of the boys would call her mom, feigning a female voice and pretending he was a girl so he and Liquorose could have conversations.

She also revealed that seeing her family struggle did not help make matters better, but this also gingered her into making a living for herself. So, when she gained admission to university, she made it a point to hustle. Dance came easily to her and she used it as a means of escape from her struggle with self-esteem and other issues bothering her. She used it as a coping mechanism and has never looked back since then.

She wasn’t the only one who had something to say about her struggles. A lot of the Housemates had a thing or two to say about their struggles, thanks to the personal Diary Sessions they had today and we will be bringing it to you in a bit. So stick around for more stories that show how human our faves are.
