Nigeria's critically aclaimed writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, turned 38 on the 15th of September. Here are some amazing facts about the author!
Chimamanda and her mighty pen
38 years ago a little girl was born in Enugu, Nigeria. Her parents may not have known it then but they had just welcomed one of Africa's most prolific modern day writers into the world. The girl's name was Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

Since publishing her first novel, Purple Hibiscus, in 2003, Chimamanda has risen to prominence as an insightful and thought-provoking African author. She's won numerous awards and even been featured on a song with the Queen of Pop, Beyonce!

This week, on the 15th of September, Chimamanda turned 38years old and to celebrate, we've put together some fast facts about the author that you may not know. Have a look:

  • To date Chimamanda has won 15 literary awards for her writing!

  • She was almost Dr. Adichie as she studied medicine and pharmacy at the Univeristy of Nigeria before moving to the United States where she studied communications and political science at Drexel University in Philadelphia.

  • Chimamanda has also written a play titled 'For Love of Biafra'.

  • Kenyan star, Lupita Nyong'o is set to turn Chimamanda's latest novel, Americanah, into a feature film.

  • Her TED talk, 'We Should All Be Feminists', has been watched over 2 million times!
