If there’s any television genre people love like no other and pledge allegiance to, it is reality shows. This year, we were treated to the very best of reality on Africa Magic, and it’s safe to say we were glued to our screens.

Nigerian Idol made a comeback to the delight of many, while Big Brother Naija kept the continent buzzing. Mercy What Next on the other hand, showed us what it means to be a boss babe with a bright future. Each show understood the assignment and left us not only entertained but filled with unforgettable moments.

As we wrap up 2021, we relive those amazing reality moments that made us the channel to watch.

Ladies and Gentlemen, here are the #BestOf21 reality show moments on Africa Magic.

Nigerian Idol

After a five-year break, Nigerian Idol made an explosive return to our screens, much to everyone’s excitement. The show featured an impressive line-up of talented (and some not so talented; we’re looking at you Golden Mic nominees) singers all vying to become Naija's next singing superstar.

The talents

Top on the list of amazing moments were the Auditions. We watched amazing talent compete fiercely for the chance to win the coveted Golden Ticket. From 16-year-old teenage sensation Beyonce, to the man who got a hug from DJ Sose, and left Seyi Shay teary-eyed, Kingdom!

The funny moments

Who can forget the funny moments from the auditions that had us in fits of laughter? Candidates with questionable vocal skills hit the stage to show us what they’ve got and we couldn’t hold back the laughter. A special shout out goes to Nigerian Idol host IK, who kept a straight face and even bantered with some of these funny contestants. It is still a mystery how he managed to keep it professional and not laugh out loud.

The Judges reactions

Oh, these were moments to die for! From Sose hiding under the table and staging a walkout, to Seyi Shay’s hysterical laugh and Obi Asika’s many faces, the judges' reactions had us on the floor this season.

The mind-blowing performances

We watched contestants grow into confident and exceptional singers under the tutelage of our impressive array of judges. Each week, they delivered stellar performances and exceptional renditions of hit songs that had us on our collective feet in our lounges.

Watch their show-stopping group performance

The fashion, darling!

Not only did the contestants dazzle us with their voices. They also wowed us with their fashion sense. It was always a sight to behold! Each week, the contestants wore colourful outfits and hairstyles fit for the veritable stars they are!

Crowning the winner

Who could ever forget FINALE NIGHT! What a delicious celebration of music. Our Nigerian Idol Finale was undoubtedly a superb night filled with unforgettable performances from our finalists, superstars and duets. At the end of the night, IK eventually announced that Kingdom had received the most votes, beating fellow finalist Francis Atela to the crown. Did you know Nigerian Idol makes an eagerly anticipated return to Africa Magic in 2022? Don’t miss it!

Big Brother Naija

This Season of Big Brother Naija, aptly named ‘Shine Ya Eye,’ was everything and more! It gave us moments we won’t forget in a hurry. Let’s take a leisurely walk down memory lane.

Gentlemen First

It was entertaining to watch the guys spend the first night alone in the House without the women. There were some questions about whether this Season was going to be a “sausage-fest”, but luckily, the ladies walked in on Night 2 and all was right with the world again. Of course, not before the fellas played an unforgettable prank on the ladies, who were dumbfounded upon entering a House with very quiet men who refused to utter a word. Missed it? See it here

The fights

Let’s get ready to rumbleee! 🥊

You know it's impossible to have young people from different walks of life living in one abode without having some spicy gbas gbos. This season of BBN Shine Ya Eye was no exception. Whether it was about food, or something more personal Season 6 had just the right amount of wahala.

The Kitchen drama

In an effort to curb Whitemoney's perceived kitchen monopoly, Pere relieved him of his duties when he became the Head of House, thereby setting the stage for one of reality televisions most iconic moments. This pitted Pere against a section of the House that wanted Whitemoney back in charge of the kitchen and soon descended into delicious chaos.

The Pranks galore

The pranks in the House were some of the most memorable moments of the season. The guys started it all by playing a trick on the ladies during their first night in the House. Next was Beatrice’s prank, then Biggie’s Fake Evictions, Liquorose’s Secret Task, then the feather on the cap; the missing Housemate saga involving Nini that had Saga spiraling. We’ll never forget watching him turn into an emotional wreck after Nini disappeared from the House for 24 hours, at Biggie’s behest. Fun (and stressful) times indeed!

Speaking of Saga…

One moment we will remember for days was watching him turn into an emotional wreck after Nini played a prank where she disappeared from the House for 24 hours.

The Ships

We love ♥️ and watching that play out amongst this season’s crop of Housemates was delightful.

The Tasks/Games

Watching the Housemates compete for prizes or a shot at being Head of House was exciting! The rush of adrenaline as they played each weekly Task had everyone glued to their screens.

The parties

This season’s parties were lit; from the Jacuzzi Party to the Saturday Night Party! We loved nothing more than to dance alongside our faves as they let their hair down after a stressful week at their weekly parties.

Ebuka’s table-shaking moments

We lived for the moments when Ebuka had the Housemates unsettled during the Live Eviction Show with his strategic questions. It was hilarious to watch Housemates squirm, stutter or deflect when responding to the most controversial questions put to them by our Ebuka.

The Buzz Exclusives

For the first time in BBN history, we had access to The Buzz hosted by Toke Makinwa, which brought us a ton of exclusive content alongside her awesome guests each week.

The Finale

The Finale saw amazing performances from Naija’s finest and marked the climax to Naija’s biggest reality show. By the end of the night, audience fave Whitemoney emerged victorious!

Mercy What Next

From winning #BBNaija Pepper Dem Season to having her second reality show, Baby girl Mercy is creating waves and giving us moments that keep us glued to our screens every Sunday evening.

Mama's girl

Our baby girl is a mummy’s girl through and through – and watching her fawn over her mum always has us reaching for the phone, to call ours. We love that Mercy recently promised to buy her mom a car (although we will be quick to say we didn’t make that promise when we called ours).

New Whip Alert

We had a “Yasssss Queen” moment when Mercy got a new Benz from her boo. Not many can get it like Mercy – and when she does, we have no choice but to stan.

Globetrotter M

From Europe to SA, Mercy keeps taking the world by storm and she isnt letting up. The Diva made her mark known in all the cities she visited and enough memories to last her a lifetime.

There you have it! The #BestOf21 Reality Shows that made our year. We know you have yours and we’d like you to let us know about them in the comments section!
