53 Extra: Spotlight on Nigeria

Keep off the week with your regular dose of 53 Extra. Tonight our very own Ozy Agu hits the ancient town of Badagry where we get to explore some of the most significant monuments in Nigeria’s history.

We caught up with some of our celebs as they let us know which Nigerian icons inspire them. They also speak about what makes them proud of Nigeria.

We also speak with image historian and curator Amanda Kirby Okolie as she schools us on some of the momentous events that went down in the country’s past and show us some interesting collections from back in the day.

Keeping things home grown we attended the Africa Magic Original Blockbuster Festival where actors producers, directors and practitioners got to mingle and showcase their movies.

Lastly, Tolu Ogunlesi is a trained pharmacist who worked as Features Editor for the defunct 234NEXT newspapers. In 2009 he was awarded the Arts and Culture prize in the annual CNN Multichoice African Journalism Awards. He won the CNN award again in 2013 in another category. He was also shortlisted for the inaugural PEN/Studzinski literary prize. He was recently appointed Special Assistant on New Media to the president of Nigeria. We catch up with him later in the show.

You can catch 53 Extra every Monday evening at 19:30CAT on Africa Magic Showcase, DStv ch151.
