Last night 10 Golden Tickets were awarded to Nigerian Idol Contenders who pleased the Judges with their respective performances. The Auditions continued with D’banj, Obi Asika, and Simi on hand to pick the best contenders who will move on to the next round of the competition, Theatre Week.

The night started on a good note with Goodness wowing the Judges with her performance of Beyonce’s arrangement of ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’. After a ‘No’ for China which was a bump on the road, a slew of ‘Yeses’ followed with Oscar, Chisom, and Constance making it to Theatre Week. These three all had unique Auditions and unique voices to match, which made them stand out in the crowd.

Oscar in particular, had luck on his side because only D’banj had given him a ‘Yes’. The “Koko Master” then managed to sway Obi Asika, who agreed to give Oscar a chance to prove himself. Chisom and Constance had encounters with one or more Judges in the past as they had Auditioned in previous seasons so it was very important that they hit the nail on the head. Chisom was a Contender on Season 7 but failed to get into the Live Show while Constance had met Simi in the past when she did a cover to her song ‘Jamb Question’.

The ‘Yeses’ continued, with Amara, Ashley, and Sandeevah - Musiq snagging a Golden Ticket each for themselves.

In as much as we would have all loved for the night to continue that way, a few contenders did not have the strongest of showings. According to the Judges, Uniqueness, Teacollins Bilo, Akorede, and Moyinoluwa did not give their best and therefore failed to snag Golden Tickets. Another contender from Season 7, Savy Henry, then lightened things up with his performance and earned a pass to Theatre Week, which is where he fell off last season. Will he make it beyond Theatre Week this season? We’ll have to wait and see!

Second time's the charm for Chisom and Savy Henry?

A few more contenders failed to impress the Judges and were denied Golden Tickets. These were Kkyola, D-Slim, and Chinonso. The night, however, ended with some sweet music from Elita King, plus Precious Mac, whose sister Faith Mac was a Contestant on Nigerian Idol Season 6.

Here are a few things the social media streets had to say about last night’s Auditions:

The Auditions will come to an end next week and we can’t wait to see all the new talent to be discovered.
