Nobody saw this coming. Not the villagers. Definitely not the gods’ loudest critics. And certainly not Chibuzor himself. Once known as the village outcast, weighed down by poverty and the constant worry of his sister’s illness, Chibuzor has officially risen to become the new Ozo Isi, the High Priest of Ndiani. Talk about a plot twist. This was not a gentle promotion or a ceremonial tap on the shoulder. Becoming Ozo Isi literally cost him his life, briefly.

Five chosen for the trial
The journey began with a brutal trial that saw five youths step forward to compete for the priesthood. Chibuzor, Callistus, Amanda, Kanayo, and Somadina all entered the spirit world to prove their worth. The trial was not about strength alone. It tested willpower, clarity of mind, and emotional balance. Basically, no faint hearts allowed. Things took a dramatic turn when Chibuzor sacrificed himself to save the others during a battle against a god. As a result, he got trapped in the spirit world while everyone else returned, convinced he was gone for good. But resilience is a stubborn thing. With sheer determination and Callistus’ bravery, Chibuzor clawed his way back from the spirit world. Last man standing. Trial completed.

Not everyone was clapping
While some celebrated his return, others were not exactly thrilled. His uncle openly questioned the gods’ decision, reminding everyone that Chibuzor came from a family long regarded as outcasts. Dike, who never hid his dislike for Chibuzor, also voiced his rejection. Cue murmurs, side-eyes, and full village gossip mode. The question on everyone’s lips was simple. Did the gods really choose him?

Proof that shut everyone up
Chibuzor did not argue. He did not explain. He simply acted. In his very first moments as Ozo Isi, he restored the sanity of Mgbeke, who was clearly not herself. It was shocking. It was undeniable. And it ended the debate immediately. When madness turns to clarity right before your eyes, you stop doubting the gods very quickly.

Now comes the hard part
As High Priest, Chibuzor must cleanse Ndiani of the evil that has plagued it, punish wrongdoers, and expose hidden perpetrators. At the same time, his friend Kanayo is demanding justice for the murder of his family. His sister is still battling a mysterious illness. And let us not forget that Chibuzor is still very young and barely understands how to wield the immense power he now carries.

Oh, and there are people close to him quietly plotting their own dark agendas. Because of course there are.

With enemies watching, friends demanding answers, and the weight of the gods resting on his shoulders, Chibuzor’s journey as Ozo Isi is only just beginning.
