Kufre Inyang
Kufre is an outwardly gentle, soft-spoken young man with an easy smile and wire-rimmed glasses. He is widely regarded as kind, harmless, and dependable. Though he is not a trained medical professional, Kufre runs the village health centre, driven by a genuine interest in caregiving and reinforced by the influence of his uncle, Chief Ofonome. To the villagers, he is a symbol of quiet service and compassion.
Kufre belongs to one of the rotating families for the throne, but he is not eligible to become king unless his uncle steps aside. What no one knows is that Chief Ofonome would willingly relinquish the throne for him if it ever came to that. Kufre, however, takes comfort in the belief that this moment will never arrive. He is convinced that Nsi, the village’s golden son, will reign for a long time, even beyond Kufre’s own lifetime.
Beneath his calm exterior lies a deep and festering jealousy. Kufre has always resented Nsi’s effortless adoration, privilege, and destiny.
