Grandma Idara
Grandma Idara is the matriarch of her family and the grandmother of Anie and Edidiong. She is the preserver of the family business, a former Daughter of Water, and a revered custodian of wisdom in the village. Respected and adored by many, Idara is calm, welcoming, and deeply loving toward her daughters. Though firm in her convictions, she is ultimately accommodating and guided by compassion.
She raised Anie after the car accident that claimed her parents, a responsibility that deepened her bond with the girl and shaped much of her life. Anie’s safety is paramount to her, alongside the preservation of culture through her family line and the continued peace and prosperity of the village.
Idara lives with a quiet fear for Anie’s mortality. Because Anie survived the accident that killed her parents, Idara is haunted by the belief that her granddaughter’s life may be fragile. This anxiety fuels her fear of losing Anie and, with her, the end of her family lineage.
She approaches life with a strong sense of justice informed by the supernatural. Purpose-driven and perceptive, Idara does not take things at face value and understands that unseen forces often shape human destiny.
