Why are you shuffling channels again?
Following the successful implementation of the channel shift 6 months ago and feedback from customers, we've made some improvements to the channel numbering and grouping. One of the important recommendations from subscribers was to number our key channels and genres in a manner that is easier to remember. Movies and general entertainment will be merged into one category - and these numbers will start at 100. News and commerce channels will be moved from 280 to 400. These changes will provide our customers with seamless channel surfing and an enhanced viewing experience.
When will the changes be implemented?
The changes will be implemented on 1 May 2008
Where can I access information to see where my favourite channel has moved to. (How am I as a subscriber going to know what the new channels numbers are?)
DISH and Skottel (May issue, page 4), Short code (32444), mail (channelshift@multichoice.co.za),
call centre (011) 289 2222 or use the Channel grid for easy access to all your favourite channels.
How do I access the channel grid?
Customers can use the channel grid to find their favourite channels. The channel grid displays a list of all available channels in the DStv bouquet and is a quick way to to check what’s showing on your favourite channel. It is also a great way to tune to a channel when you’re not quite sure what number that channel is on.
  1. To display the channel grid, press any of the arrow keys on your remote control.(Please ensure that there is no other information on-screen, e.g. the i-plate, bouquet options etc, when you press the arrow keys)
  2. Use the arrow keys to move the highlights around the grid. As you move the highlight, you will notice that the information on the i-plate ( at the bottom of the screen) updates to reflect the programming information on the selected channel. To tune to the selected channel, simply press ‘OK”. To view extended programme information, press “i”.
  3. To remove the channel grid, press “Exit”.
  4. You can also set reminders from the channel grid. Press “i” and then the arrow to highlight the next programme. You can press “OK” once to set a normal banner reminder or press “OK” twice to set an auto tune reminder.
Where else can I get the information on the new channel numbers?
DISH magazine - May issue

If my decoder is off / or in standby mode when the change takes place, what will happen when it gets switched on again?
When a decoder is switched on again and all the installation cables are correctly connected to the decoder, the decoder should acquire the updated channel list and tune to channel 100 or the last viewed channel the decoder was tuned to, i.e. if the decoder was last tuned to SS1 before the channel shift for longer than 5 minutes and then switched off. When the decoder is switched on again after the channel reshuffle, the decoder will scan and go back to SS1 on the new channel number.

The implementation of the shift is expected to take 1-2 hours. Subscribers will continue to watch as normal, however with the final change your decoder will go to 'rescan'. Please do not cancel or reboot your decoder whilst your box is in the rescan mode. Your decoder will automatically recover with the new channel numbers once the rescan is complete. If your rescan does not activate any products (remains at zero) we recommend that you download the latest software (**see procedure) and perform a reboot (switch off at mains for a few seconds.)

**Procedure:
Press Menu
Select Advance options
Select DSD Upgrade
When the upgrade is available with a confirmation on how long the download will take, Press OK to start the upgrade.
When only the automatic upgrade option is available that mean you have the latest software, press menu to return to live TV and ignore future request (between now and 1 May 2008)
If you cannot select DSD upgrade this also mean that you have the latest software.
What is the effect whilst the shift is being implemented?
Your PVR will still record a scheduled event, however your recording will be interrupted only during the rescan mode. The specific recording will be flagged in your playlist with an 'interrupted recording' symbol (yellow triangle with an exclamation mark)
