Kanye West debuts fashion line
By Jocelyn Uithaler | Tue, 04 Oct 2011

The hip hop star, who famously wore a women’s shirt from Celine for a performance at the 2011 Coachella Music Festival, debuted his women’s fashion line at Paris Fashion Week on Saturday.

US Vogue editor Anna Wintour, former French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld, musician Jared Leto and actresses-turned-fashion designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were just a few of the famous faces at the library of the Lycee Henri IV to see the collection, reports Time magazine’s newsfeed.

And Kanye’s star power didn’t end there. The fashion blog The Cut says Chanel Iman, Karlie Kloss, Anja Rubik, and Izabel Goulart all graced the catwalk in DW by Kanye West designs.

The fashion line is named after West’s late-mother, Donde, reports Toronto’s The Star.

But all this star power wasn’t enough to keep the critics at bay.

In an analysis of the show, Style said: “What we actually saw was something that looked like a baby Balmain vision of womenswear.”

Christina Binkley, on her Wall Street Journal blog, said: “The only thing more painful than witnessing the dress was watching the model pitch down the runway in shoes so ill-fitting that her spike heels were bending at angles.”

Fashion blogger for the New York Times Runway, did not mince words either. “What Mr. West eventually showed was confusing as well. Though designers in Paris are presenting collections for next spring and summer this week, Mr. West’s collection was heavy on leather, fur and coats, some pieces dripping with so much fox you couldn’t tell if they were stoles or backpacks.”

Ouch! We will reserve comment on Kanye’s fashion line and let you decide for yourself.
