William Shatner’s most memorable roles
By
Jocelyn Uithaler | Mon, 21 Nov 2011
Most people have their own favourite William Shatner memory – be it as Denny Crane, the host of one of the first reality shows on television in
Rescue 911
or as the iconic Captain Kirk on
Star Trek
.
This television legend has entertained audiences for more than 50 years! And at 80 years-old, there’s still a lot of va va voom in him, to keep audiences entertained and rolling over with laughter.
On Monday night (tonight) viewers get to see him in the hot seat on
Piers Morgan Tonight
show.
The Canadian actor has ventured into producing and directing and performing in theatre productions. Shatner has also written several novels and released four albums, but these roles listed below can be considered as some of his most memorable and loveable roles.
Star Trek
One of the most popular science fiction series, Shatner brought to life Captain Kirk and with it came a legion of fans, simply known as Trekkies.
Shatner’s role as Captain Kirk saw him in high demand, giving talks at conventions. His experience on this sci-fi classic also saw him write a series of novels,
TekWar
, in the same genre, which was turned into made for television movies.
Rescue 911
Perhaps one of the first reality shows,
Rescue 911
showed real-life emergencies reenacted for the cameras. As host of the show, Shatner was seen on TV screens across the world, as his voice overs made audiences feel as if they too were living the horror shown on screen.
But he also reassured audiences, bringing them comfort knowing that at the end, everything will be alright.
Boston Legal
‘Denny Crane’ is the single most used phrase in
Boston Legal
, with Denny uttering these two words almost as much as breathing.
But Shatner, who brought this character to life, first appeared with this character’s quirkiness on the legal drama,
The Practice
.
Never shy to tackle any problem with his quirkiness and his intense love for his colleague Shirley Schmidt, Denny Crane always provided lighter moments, regardless of how intense or serious a situation is. And of course, hearing his name being called out, just made Denny all the more excited, some would say intolerable.
Bleep My Dad Says
Aaah, the impact of social media! From a Twitter feed to a book based on the 140 character updates, Shatner is the father in this new comedy.
A writer moves in with his very opinionated father, who has some of the funniest and inappropriate sayings. The chemistry between father and son is questionable, but Shatner makes up for this with all his one-liners.
With the camera on him, almost like with Denny Crane, audiences know something funny will be said, but still get caught off guard at some of the inappropriate bleep this dad says.
Tune into the
Piers Morgan Tonight
show on Monday evening at 10PM on CNN, to watch the full interview with William Shatner.
