You’ll see Giuliana Rancic rocking the E! red carpet, not only interviewing some of the biggest names in the world of entertainment, but wearing some of the most glamorous gowns while doing it.

Well if she didn’t look good, her co-host Joan Rivers would most certainly "fine" her for her fashion faux pas on their hugely popular show Fashion Police.

You’ve probably also come across her and hubby Bill Rancic’s reality show too, where the two share their lives as a normal married couple and how they deal with their busy schedules.  So it’s safe to say she’s one of the busiest women in entertainment.

Well life is about to get even busier for G, as she’s more affectionately known. The star and her hubby are going to be the proud parents of a baby boy later this month.

Ahead of the big arrival, we caught up with Giuliana who is currently in London to cover the Olympic games for E! News.



DStv.com: Thanks for chatting to us today.

Giuliana Rancic: My pleasure. Really nice to chat to you too.

DStv.com: So you’re on assignment for E! News in London for the Olympics. How’s it going so far?

GR: It’s great. You know we’ve been really busy doing a lot of interviews with a lot of Olympians. Yesterday my co-worker and I went and took on the US doubles female Olympic team in tennis and it was hilarious. We’re doing a lot of fun stuff on E! you know, because not only is it obviously the biggest event in the world right now, it’s also a pop culture event. There are celebrities here, there’s a lot of entertainment and fashion too. So it’s pretty wonderful event and E! is covering it. I’m anchoring from here. It’s very exciting.

DStv.com: There are so many sports on the go. Are there any in particular that you’re looking forward to seeing?

GR: It’s funny, as we speak I’m watching rowing and it looks at though the Australians are leading. I love gymnastics. I’ve interviewed all the gymnasts. Tennis is a big one. I grew up playing sport so I’m definitely a big sports fan. So there’s so much to see here and right now we’re just trying to get some more tickets to see as much as possible

DStv.com: These athletes are the epitome of what it means to look and feel healthy. When you interview them do you feel like you need to head off to the gym for a workout afterwards? (laughs).

GR: You see them on television and you think wow, they’re in great shape. When you see them in real life you think “oh my God” are they in great shape. It’s different seeing them in person. They look like machines and they’re so incredibly in shape. So yeah we do sometimes feel like that. Yesterday when Cat (Sandler) and I were playing tennis with the Olympians, we definitely thought we were in good shape but compared to these girls, we were out of breath, we were falling all over the place. You realise after spending time with these Olympians what it means to really be in good shape. So we do have a little gym here at the hotel (laughs). After I talk to you I have a little break and instead of going to get some dessert or fish and chips, I think we’ll take a long walk and try to work off some of our extras so that we can keep up with them (laughs).

DStv.com: You’re just about to become a mom. How are you and Bill feeling?

GR: We’re very, very excited. We’re about four weeks away and we can’t wait.

DStv.com: You’re one of the hosts of the very popular Fashion Police on E! What’s it like to be apart of the show?

GR: It’s fantastic. You know we’ve been doing it for several years now. We start at 6’o’Clock in the morning once a week. When we come in we’re pretty tired but as soon as Joan comes in, you snaps you right out of it. Some of the things that come out of her mouth is so shocking and alarming that you just can’t help but wake up and go “Oh my God”. By the end of the three hours our cheeks hurt from laughing so much. It’s just such a fun show to do and Joan is just such a pro. You really learn a lot from here just watching her. I love that show. It’s definitely a lot of fun.

           

DStv.com: As you said some of the things she says are shocking. Do you ever think how on earth will that air?

GR: Oh yeah definitely. It’s funny, there are times when I think they’re probably going to cut that out and tell her she can’t say that. It would kind of happen at the beginning but not so much now. I sometimes think I cannot believe they’re going to let that slide. Truth is though, they let it slide because she’s a comedian and that’s what she does. I can’t say what Joan says, neither can Kelly because we’re not known as comedians, but with her, that’s what she has been doing forever. I think that’s what people expect from her and I’m glad they do because she brings light to a lot of situations and she just has fun. Sometimes in people in Hollywood take themselves too seriously and sometimes you need someone like Joan to bring them back down to planet earth.

DStv.com: Have you ever been on the receiving end of Joan’s critiques?

GR: Oh, absolutely. She’s called me out several times. She’d say my skirts too short or my hair’s too blonde and too long. One time we were doing a segment in the show about pet peeves on the red carpet. She said she didn’t like dresses that were too long and not altered properly and she actually brought out a picture of me. She picked up on my dress from the Screen Actors Guild Awards and when she said that I was like “you’re right. It was too long”. The thing is you have to be able to take it. It’s just fashion and fashion’s fun. If I can’t look at myself and laugh then I’m taking myself too seriously.

People might not know this about Giuliana, but she played an imperative and significant role in saving E! News, making it what the show is today. Listen to what she had to say about this below:

DStv.com: You knew at an early age that you wanted to anchor of some sorts. Can you recall that moment?

GR: When I was little we moved to America from Italy. I used to watch the news day in and day out. I don’t know why or what it was about the news, but I really enjoyed it. I think it was just because there were these women who looked great, dressed really nicely. They had these great smiles and who gave me information that I thought was interesting. I just became enamored with that job and I just thought wow, what a cool job. I want to be one of these women. It was just at a very young age and that was it. Once I realised I could make a living off of this job and that I could try to become one of these women and that’s what I set out to do. I’m not quite sure why, but I recall wanting to be apart of it from a very young age.

DStv.com: Any plans to visit us anytime soon?

GR: I was supposed to come after the Olympics for an event and I was so excited to come. It was going to be four days, but with the baby coming it was too close to the due date. So we’ll have to come for sure. SA is one of our top two destinations. We really want to go to South Africa  and Australia together, so we’ll be there soon.
