Meet SuperSport's Olympic dream team
The Olympics on SuperSport
Throw your own Olympics party
Jocelyn Uithaler | Fri, 27 Jul 2012
It's finally here!
With great fanfare and fireworks, the 2012 Olympic Games officially start tonight
(catch the opening ceremony on SuperSport 4 at 21:45)
And yes, the world’s biggest games are reason enough to invite a few friends over and party in style. Don’t forget to grab your country’s flag along the way, as you celebrate your countrymen cross the finish line.
The key to throwing a successful Olympic party is to remember The Rule of Five. We may have just made that one up, but the Olympic symbol has five rings, so let’s just go with it, shall we?
What’s a party without costumes?
Ask your guests to come dressed in the Olympic colours: black, red, yellow, blue and green.
And make sure your décor reflects the Olympic games. What do you think of balloon Olympic rings set up against a wall?
Warm up your guests before the fun and festivities start, with a few forgotten, and not official, Olympic sports.
About a century ago, Tug Of War was an official Olympic sport. Have a battle of the sexes, men against the women, and see who can cross the finish line first.
There’s also arm wrestling, how about some synchronised dancing and if you have a back garden, perhaps 4-a-side soccer.
Organising food for a party can always be tricky…. The plan is to make it as easy for your guests as possible.
No forks and knives are necessary, and the smaller the better (this way you can indulge in all the yummy snacks).
Perhaps your menu can reflect food from the host country? And what’s more English than cucumber sandwiches and tea?
And with so many flavoured teas on the market, you will be spoilt for choice.
Also add scones, biscuits, Olympic cupcakes, fish nuggets, chips and beer to the menu.
Don’t forget to add background music.
With all the chatter and the TV switched on, you want to set just the right atmosphere.
A playlist with winning songs like
We Are The Champions
, and even classic Olympic theme songs like
, will be perfect!
The point of any party is to always have fun, and lots of it!
With friends and family by your side, cheer on your favourite sportsmen, and maybe even learn a thing or two about a new sport.
Remember, once London is over, we’ll have to wait four more years before we can celebrate Olympic style again.
Remember to catch all the Olympic action on our SuperSport channels, starting with tonight’s Opening Ceremony on SuperSport 4 at 21:45.
