Project Runway: The good, the bad and the nasty

This week we bid Auf Wiedersehen to the Heidi Klum and friends, over at the sewing factory – also known as
Project Runway
.
From meltdowns, to on screen bitchiness (hello Gretchen), to amazing designs, we look back at some of the best and worst designs to hit the runway in season 8.
Fear not folks, a new series-
Models of the Runway
hits screens next week (same time and place) with none other than the Klum-clan!
The good
Gretchen – although annoying as hell – proved why she got as far as she did in the runway competition by winning two rounds in a row! Although she didn’t manage to pull a rabbit out of the (Philip Tracey) hat in episode 3, she did manage to dazzle the judges in this three piece number. Where can we get something like this, Gretchen?!
While Gretchen placed second in episode 3, Andy took top honours in his off the shoulder-come-rocker chic design. So original and inspired, we could so picture a hot young Hollywood starlet in this number…maybe even Lady Gaga…if it were made from beef fillet.
One of the best designers to grace the runway and certainly the man with the most flair, Michael Costello – that name just sounds haute couture – wowed the judges with his Grecian inspired bronze gown which put liquid chocolate to shame for good! We want!
Another dazzler on the catwalk was Mondo in episode 8, when he broke all the fashion rules written in every fashion bible and mixed two patterns together. The risk paid off and out came a Chanel-meets-nautical inspired look, proving that indeed the rules can not only be broken but re-written. No wonder he made the top two!
It was pure genius, wasn’t it? Andy’s dress come swimming costume was on-point and made fashionista’s sit up and take notice. The colour, the cut and the styling was simply perfect and really, who doesn’t want a full length gown that can be turned into bather?
The bad
Valerie’s disastrous red number in episode 4 came off a little desperate and a lot wanting. The length, cut and weird jacket was just a big no-no and the judges certainly agreed. It was all a little “costumy” if you ask us!
It seems the Philip Tracey challenge had everyone in a tizz including April… So much in fact that she forgot to design a garment and instead sent her poor model out in over-sized panties and a jacket. Oh wait…that was her intention! We struggled to comprehend this look, despite the judges not sending her home in this challenge.
The what the..?
Kristin’s hideous black and red number in episode 4, made us all cringe a little. Messing with the classic LBD (little black dress) is always a hefty challenge to take on, and unfortunately it just didn’t work! The challenge was to design something avant-garde, but her take came across a little avant-garbish.
Nicholas’ mash-up of cape, blouse and pointy skirt reminded us of a vampire camouflaged as the school secretary…we weren’t sure where to look on this one… No wonder he was sent home in episode two!
Who will walk away with the ulitimate of $100,000 from L’Oréal Paris, a fashion spread in Marie Claire magazine, a $50,000 technology suite by HP and Intel, and the opportunity to design and sell an exclusive collection on piperlime.com? Well you’ll just have to tune into the finale to find out! This evening (23 August) , at 20:30, only on Vuzu!
