The hugely successful Resident Evil franchise is back.

And while the video game-based flicks aren’t for everyone, like the Saw series they clearly have a huge fan base who have no problem forking out their hard-earned cash to watch them.

The fifth installment, Resident Evil: Retribution, picks up where the fourth left off, with Alice (Milla Jovovich) in captivity, under the close watch of the Umbrella Corporation.


With the human race dying out, replaced with Red Queen-controlled androids and flesh-eating zombies (of course), it’s up to Alice to save them.

So she finds herself in alliance with old enemies to break her out so she can do what she does best: kick butt and fire big guns. All while in an impossibly-tight cat suit. 

Look, this is not Golden Globes fodder, so one should not expect complex, layered storylines with meanings within meanings.

It’s a movie that’s all about style – the guns, the cars, the baddies, the hotties, the cool soundtrack and the zombies (who look like they've been breeding with the facehuggers from Alien).


Some new characters get into the mix, notably Michelle Rodriguez, whose Rain is as kickass as Milla’s Alice.

Resident Evil: Retribution will not win over any new fans but it will probably keep the ones it has happy.

If Coca-Cola can have the same recipe for 100 years, why can’t Resident Evil give its viewers Milla Jovovich in skin-tight outfits battling it out with zombies, flick after flick?
