The animated movie Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted has surprised everyone with an outstanding start on its opening weekend.

The third installment of the series outperformed Ridley Scott's Prometheus to shoot straight to the top of cinema circuits, bringing in over sixty million dollars in its first three days.

The movie, which premiered at The Cannes Film Festival in May, features voice work from Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith, David Schwimmer and Sacha Baron Cohen.

The kid friendly production replaced the previous week's number one Snow White & The Huntsman, which slipped down to third.
