Following a roaring success the second time around, the latest version of drama mini-series Shuga: Love, Sex, Money is being broadcast on radio across six countries in Africa.

The series, whose TV version featured actors like Lupita Nyongo, Sharon Olago, Nick Ndeda (Tinsel) and Avril among others, started airing on Homeboyz Radio and Koch FM on Wednesday.

Shuga for radio has been fashioned in 12 eight-minute episodes, tackling issues like love, HIV counselling and testing, sexual violence and condom use, according to a statement from UNICEF, who are among the partners responsible for the radio production.

“Among the characters whose moving stories will be told in Shuga Radio are Sofia,19, her sweetheart Fally, 20, Sofia’s cousin Amina,17, smooth-talking risk-taker Karis, 20, and a successful business woman and ‘sugar mommy’ Riziki,” the statement read.

Shuga radio will be broadcast in English, Swahili and French, and is intended to reach an audience of about 45 million people from Kenya, Cameroon, DRC, Lesotho, South Africa and Tanzania.

The drama was produced in collaboration with PEPFAR and the MTV Staying Alive Foundation.
