Halle Berry was challenged by the “very constricted space” in which Dark Tide was filmed.

The actress starred alongside her fiancé French actor Olivier Martinez in director John Stockwell’s action thriller.

The plot centres on a diver named Kate, portrayed by Halle, who quits exploring the seas after she gets involved in a near lethal confrontation with great white sharks.

The arrival of Kate’s former partner, Olivier’s character, compels her to swim with the dangerous creatures once again.

Halle admits that the largely aquatic role was difficult to shoot at times.

“We are out there in the middle of nowhere on a little boat and on most days there are around 20 men and women on that little boat trying to make a movie, with all these tight corners, in a very constricted space. Which is an acting challenge – something I had to learn how to do,” she revealed in a press release.

“We had to find a little corner and deal with what ever the process is at that time, and sometimes we couldn’t prepare at all but just have to hit the deck running.”

Dark Tide is available on DVD from 22 October.
