Riaad Moosa, Rob van Vuuren hit Comedy Central
Comedy channel Comedy Central (DStv Premium #122) and South African comedy legend Joe Parker are bringing their hilarious stand-up special, Comedy Central Presents…Live at Parker’s to Cape Town for one night only in December 2013.

Hosted by hometown favourite Riaad Moosa, the comedy showcase - which shines a light on the nation’s most established and up-and coming comics – will also feature stand-up appearances by Rob Van Vuuren, Tracy Klass and Carl Weber.

This is the first ever Cape Town outing for the Comedy Central Presents… franchise. The monthly stand-up series from the 24 hour comedy TV channel usually takes place on the last Wednesday of every month at Parker’s Comedy & Jive, Montecasino, Johannesburg.

Comedy Central Presents Riaad Moosa Live at Parker’s Cape Town will be taking over the Roxy Revue Bar at GrandWest Casino & Entertainment World on Monday, 10 December. Highlights of the show will subsequently feature on Comedy Central on Friday, 15 February 2013.

South African Comic’s Choice award winner Riaad Moosa (@RiaadMoosa) is one of South Africa’s most popular and acclaimed funnymen - and just happens to be a qualified medic as well!

Known as “the Comedy Doctor”, Moosa certainly seems to have the remedy for the nation’s ills, prescribing a regular dose of laughter, straight up (hold the aspirin).

On stage, Moosa conquers new fans on an almost daily basis with sold-out one-man shows such as Strictly Halaal and Riaad Moosa for the Baracka. A regular on TV, Moosa has appeared in Laugh Out Loud and cult SABC 1 series Pure Monate Show and is now a regular fixture on Late Nite News with Loyiso Gola hosting a segment called The Second Opinion – with Dr Riaad Moosa.

In 2009, Moosa featured in the Anant Singh/John Vlismas produced comedy-collective feature film Outrageous, which was released at cinemas nationwide towards the end of 2009. More recently, Moosa has been flexing his comedic and dramatic acting muscles, playing the lead in the movie Material, which is currently inspiring audiences all over the UK.

Stand-up comedy is just one string to the bow of Rob Van Vuuren (@RobVanVuuren). Not satisfied with winning the most recent outing of Strictly Come Dancing, the multi-talented entertainer has been captivating audiences far and wide as an accomplished MC, actor, writer and producer – and as a relentless and ruthless stand-up comedian.

When he’s not on stage, you can find Van Vuuren on TV as the unforgettable co-host of Crazy Game and, most recently, co-presenting SA’s Got Talent (Season I & II) with Anele Mdoda. He also features as the hilarious Twakkie in The Most Amazing Show (TMAS).

Born in London and raised in Johannesburg, Tracy Klass (@TracyKlass) now resides in Cape Town with her three children. Single mother Klass has been performing stand-up comedy since her arrival in Cape Town in 1999. As one of the few female stand-ups in South Africa, Klass’s comedic turf is the things that women find funny – namely, themselves, and the issues they hold dear: children, weight, ageing and food…

Known for her "growing up disgracefully" stance on life and her insistence on being dragged kicking and screaming towards middle age, Klass has co-starred in two full length shows with fellow comedienne Mel Jones and in July 2011, she appeared in her first full length one-woman stand-up show – Klass Struggle which ran at on Broadway for three weeks.

Self-confessed farm boy Carl Weber (@CarlWeber9) has been honing his comedic skills on the Cape Town comedy circuit since 2010. Weber’s comedy revolves around being a small town boy in the big city and his experiences of growing up in the Free State. He delves in and out of hilariously funny characters, with an amazingly unique take on everyday life.

While still new to the comedy scene, Weber reached the finals of the Graca Comedy Showdown and performed at the annual Rocking the Daisies Festival before winning both Phat Joe’s Next Comic competition and the Graca Comedy Showdown in 2011. Among Weber’s many other claims to fame are opening for Loyiso Gola’s one man show and sharing the stage with international comics like Greg Behrendt (best selling author of He’s Just Not That Into You) and the internationally acclaimed comic, Pablo Francisco.

Comedy Central Presents Riaad Moosa Live at Parker’s will premiere on Comedy Central on Friday, 15 February at 20:55.

Tickets for Comedy Central Presents Riaad Moosa Live at Parker’s are available on the door at Roxy Revue Bar, or at Computicket, priced R120. Doors open at 19:00 CAT.
