Beetlejuice sequel planned

A
Beetlejuice
sequel is in the works.
The 1988 movie - directed by Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder - is set to get a follow-up worked on by David Katenzberg and Seth Grahame-Smith after they signed a production deal with Warner Bros.
Grahame-Smith, who wrote
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
is set to write two scripts for the studio, one of which is likely to be
Beetlejuice 2
.
He told Deadline.com: "We want to make big movies based on big ideas and inspired by the comedies we grew up loving."
The deal came about following the screenwriting work Grahame-Smith did with Tim on
Dark Shadows
, a forthcoming dark comedy starring Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer.
Despite only being an hour and a half long and making just $73 million at the cinema,
Beetlejuice
- about a pair of ghosts who hire the services of a "bio-exorcist" to rid their home of its living owners - became a massive cult hit, and even won an Oscar for best make-up in 1989.
